Lay Readers Schedule

A few reminders for Lay Readers:

  • If you are unable to read on your assigned day, PLEASE GET A REPLACEMENT!
  • Please call the church office and let Su know with whom you’ve traded. If you are unable to trade, please call Michele Fox (687-4966) so that she can get a replacement. Su does not find replacements.
  • At the 8:00 service the reader reads the First Reading, the Psalm, and the Epistle.
  • At the 10:00 service, the first reader listed reads the First Reading and the Psalm; the second reader listed reads the Epistle.
  • Please prepare your lesson and/or psalm reading ahead of time. You may call the office Thurs. or Fri. morning and Su will be able to tell you what the readings are. If you have to purchase a New Revised Standard Version of the Bible or a Book of Common Prayer in order to prepare, please go to www.churchpublishing.com and order one online or you can call Church Publishing (1-800-242-2918) to order one.
  • Please use the Lectionary in the pulpit for your reading. There is also a Book of Common Prayer from which to read the Psalm. PLEASE DO NOT BRING PAPER COPIES TO THE PULPIT.
  • Due to the sensitivity of some of our parishioners and the close quarters in the sanctuary, we ask that you refrain from wearing after-shave, cologne, or perfume when you are serving in the Altar. Thank you in advance for your consideration.

For Acolytes:

  • If you are unable to serve on your assigned day, PLEASE FIND A REPLACEMENT!
  • Please call the church office and let Su know with whom you’ve traded so she can adjust the bulletin.
  • If you are unable to trade, please call Michele Fox (687-4966) so that she can get a replacement. Su does not find replacements, so please do not leave a message for her asking her to do so.
  • Also, please do not leave a message on the office answering machine on Friday or Saturday as it will not be picked up until Monday. Please call Michele Fox on those days.
  • Please arrive at the church at 20 minutes to 10 if you are serving at the 10 am service. Thank you.

If you have not already, please send an email to info@rhinebeck-episcopal.org with your contact information (phone number and, ideally, email address) so that we can compile a mailing list, which may make rescheduling easier.

MAD DASH

August 24, 2009
8:00 pm

There will be a meeting of the MAD DASH Committee on Monday,  Aug. 24 at 7:00 pm in Donegan Hall.

It’s time for you to save your gallon water bottles (with caps please) and bring them to the parish hall so we’ll have them for the MAD DASH.

If you can bake the famous Messiah Brownies for race day, please let Joanne Clark know.

The annual “stuffing party” to prepare for the race will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, Sept. 4th. If you can help, please contact Barbara Kraft.

There is a critical need for volunteers for race course Traffic Control on race day morning. We still need 6 or more volunteers to help ensure the safety of the runners. Please call Ed Goff at 266-4773. Volunteers are also needed to help with a variety of other tasks on race day (Labor Day, Sept. 7). If you are available that morning or for part of that morning, please see Joanne or Clarence Clark.

Parish Profile: World Cafe

March 22, 2009
11:15 am
March 23, 2009
7:00 pm

Thanks to everyone who participated in the Church of the Messiah Parish survey. At least one member of almost 50% of our households completed the survey. As we said, the survey is the first step to completing our parish profile. The nest step is to host a series of World Cafe meetings to expand on and explore what we learned in the survey.

The World Cafe is an innovative yet simple methodology for hosting conversations about questions that matter. The conversations link and build on each other as people move between groups, cross pollinate ideas and discover new insights into the questions and issues most important to the Church of the Messiah congregation. Our questions or topics will be based on the survey results and will center on the qualities we are looking for in a new rector and where do we see our church going in the next five years. The World Cafe is set up to be a relaxed environment that fosters good conversation and the free exchange of ideas.

We are hosting two World Cafes. The first will be after the 10:00 AM service on Sunday, March 22. Lunch will be served and child care is available. The second meeting will be Monday evening, March 23 at 7:00 PM.  Dessert, coffee and tea will be served. Child care will also be available that evening.  It is not necessary that you completed a survey to attend either meeting.

For more information on the World Cafe format, go to www.theworldcafe.com. We look forward to seeing you there.

Come this Tuesday for a yummy pancake supper hosted by the choir. We will be serving from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm. A free will offering will be taken to defray the cost of the supper. Suggested donation is $5 per adult or $10 for a family, but any amount is acceptable.

Writing as Spiritual Practice

Pam Wright is facilitating a writing group called Writing As Spiritual Practice. The group will meet for five weeks during Lent on Thursday evenings from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. (excluding March 5) and is open to anyone who is interested in writing. You may attend one, some or all groups. The group will combine writing exercises that are accessible to everyone and sharing writing that the participants have found inspirational. People who think they can’t write are particularly encouraged to attend because having the experience of expressing one’s internal knowing can be so empowering and uplifting. Please register by calling 266-4381. Meetings will be in an upstairs classroom in Weigel Hall.
