Verse of the Day

Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. (Matthew 24:42, ESV)

Capes for Kids

Martin Luther King Day of Service is a national day of service honoring the life and work of Dr. King.  Our youth here at Messiah, our adult congregation members and the local community chose to help a national non-profit organization, Enchanted Makeovers, with their “capes for kids” project. Here is their mission statement, taken from their website

Since 2007, Enchanted Makeovers’ mission has been to transform homeless shelters for women and children into places that inspire behavioral and psychological change. Through our various projects, mentoring programs and makeovers of the physical space, women and children are introduced to a way of thinking that helps to shift their outlook about their lives and possibilities for the future.

The idea behind their Capes For Kids project is to inspire children in these shelters not to wait for a superhero, but to be their own superhero.  Since every cape is unique and handmade with love, each child who receives one will feel their own superpowers, and know that they have the strength and ability to create whatever they want for their lives. You can read more about the project at

The day of service took place on Sunday Jan. 19th.  Please click on the link below to see the capes that were made by our parish and community.
