We’re showing the film to ignite discussion and raise questions about how we, as parents and teachers, can inspire a love of learning, create environments that increase young people’s feelings of confidence, and convey respect for the “whole child”.

With increasing numbers of students nation-wide being treated for stress related illnesses and taking “study drugs” such as Adderall to help juggle the many commitments, it seems worthwhile to examine a potential downside, as the New York Times put it, “of childhoods spent on resume-building”.

We hope you’ll join us, and stay for the panel discussion following the film. Panelists include: RHS Student, Vassar College Student, Bard College Admissions Officer, Red Hook MS Principal, CLS Teacher, Pediatrician, and Therapist.

The goal of this group is to help the girls express themselves through writing in a trusting environment. Girls do not have to attend all the sessions; they are welcome to come anytime. We hope you will come and enjoy a delicious lunch of soup, sandwich, and homemade dessert and support this very worthy recipient. It is difficult to be homeless at any time of year, but the Holiday Season is particularly hard, especially for families. Gannett House could especially use donations of soap, toiletries, shaving supplies, toothbrushes, toothpaste, towels, washcloths and sheets, so please feel free to bring any of those items along with you– and of couse, bring your friends!

The cost of the meal is $6.00 and take out is available for $7.00 by calling 876-3533 to place your order between 10:00 am and 12:30 pm.
