Extra food and help are needed at coffee hour this Easter Sunday. If you can bring extra baked goods to coffee hour, it would be appreciated. Also, we need volunteers to help clean up following both 8am and 10am service coffee hours. The Acolyte Festival is coming up quickly. It is Saturday, May 19th and we will be registering as a group. Please let Chele Fox know if you might be interested in going. It is a chance for the young people to see the cathedral, go to some fun workshops and participate in a procession of 300+ acolytes from all over the mid -Hudson region. Fr. Richard and Chele will be going, and there will be chaperons; details about cost and transportation to come. We will be setting a final date for registration soon. It has always been a wonderful service, and is geared to both adult and young acolytes. Please respond via e-mail to Chele Fox, if you are interested. In preparation for the Easter season and the acolyte’s festival in May, Chele would like some acolyte parent volunteers to take the acolyte robes home to wash and dry them. If there is any wax on them, please iron the spot between two paper bags before washing, to remove wax. Thanks for your help! Third Thursday cooks would be forever grateful if parishioners who have a ham for Easter and are not going to use the bone for soup could wrap it well in foil, freeze it, bring it to church the next Sunday and put it in one of the freezers in the kitchen. We will make a terrific soup from these bones for the third Thursday luncheon on April 19th. Beautiful Easter banners made by the young women of our parish grace the front walkway leading to the church. The young women who painted the banners were Amy and Maggie Hanson, Rachel and Ann Pietrow, Elle Ping and Julia Lent. The helpers were Nancy Lent, Cindy Ping, Leanora Kovacs, and Pam Wright. We will resume our usual meetings on this Monday, April 10, from 2-4 p.m. in Donegan Hall. We continue to encourage parishioners who are caring for loved ones to join us for emotional, spiritual and social support (and coffee and cookies) as we begin to reach out into the wider community to invite new members into our circle. We are particularly looking forward this spring to forging ties with the burgeoning support services at the Center for Healthy Aging at Northern Dutchess Hospital. Anyone interested in receiving direct communications from us should call 845-901-1239 and leave a message with contact information. COME JOIN US! The volunteers at our Pantry remain grateful for all of your continued support and cooperation. After February’s distribution we found that we still needed the following items: plain white or brown rice, flour, cooking oil, sugar, toothpaste, soap, canned pasta with sauce (like Chef Boyardee), and sanitary supplies (for example, Depends or Kotex). We always appreciate any foods low in sugar and/or salt. Please keep us in mind when you do your shopping! We will be celebrating first communion for any of our young people on Sunday, May 27th. We will hold the first classes for those interested in being prepared for first communion on this Tuesday, April 10th at 4:00pm in Donegan Hall. If you have a question about first communion speak to Father Richard. Go to Messiah’s Google Calendar to add these events to your own calendar: MAUNDY THURSDAY GOOD FRIDAY HOLY SATURDAY EASTER SUNDAY: Services at 8 am and 10 am The young people who were confirmed are sponsoring an outreach project to benefit the rebuilding of the Trinity Music Episcopal School at the cathedral in Port Au Prince, Haiti. Last week we raised almost $700 for the school. If you are interested in reading a part from The Passion at the Good Friday service, speak to Father Richard. Monday afternoons from 2 to 4 in Donegan Hall (Evening meetings have been postponed for the time being). The new caregivers support group has determined a parallel purpose to better reflect our mission to offer spiritual and emotional support to current and former caregivers. We’ve come to realize the need to complement the upcoming caregivers support group sponsored by the Northern Dutchess Center for Healthy Aging and to offer an umbrella program which will include social activities as well as discussions. An invitation to attend the afternoon meetings will be conveyed to local churches for posting on their websites and/or bulletins. Interested participants will be asked to call 845-901-1239 to register by leaving their name and contact information. Our thanks to Pam Wright, who has made a new Lenten altar hanging based on creative input from Pam, Leanora Kovacs and Fr. Richard. It was blessed by Bishop Dietsche last week and is a wonderful addition to the church. Our thanks to everyone who contributed items to be sent to Stephanie Weichsel; the response was tremendous and we hope to expand the program to all our men and women serving in the armed forces. If you know of anyone who is currently serving and would like a care package, please let the parish office know. We could use volunteers to lend a hand and a brush. If you are interested in helping, speak to Marlene Alexander. Our stewardship mailing has gone out to our members. Please review and pray over the materials before making your pledge for 2012. We request that all pledges be to the office as soon as possible. You may mail them, hand deliver them or place them in the collection plate. To date we have 96 pledges totaling $145,471.00. Our thanks to everyone who has made a pledge to date. There will be a meeting of the Church School Teachers today in Donegan Hall at 11:45 am to discuss the rest of the school year. The search committee for our youth minister has been formed. Maundy Thursday—April 5, 2012 On this day we commemorate the last night Jesus spent with his disciples, and began the tradition of a shared meal of bread and wine, now known as Communion. After communion in church, we remove all the decoration and embellishments of the church interior. By tradition our prayer book allows us to place some of the consecrated bread and wine from this evening’s service in church. Then following Jesus’ request at the garden at Gethsemane that his disciples watch while Jesus prayed, we will keep watch in church throughout the night dividing the time into hour intervals from 9pm Thursday until 12 noon on Good Friday. There is a sign up roster in the church for the watch, but you can also just come as you wish. The church will remain open throughout the night. If you do come, please enter by the main doors or the sacristy door. The watch is a time of reflection, quiet, and prayer before we come to Good Friday. 7:30 PM Holy Eucharist, followed by stripping of the Altar 9:00 PM-12:00 Noon Prayer Watch in the Church continuing throughout the night.

Holy Saturday—April 7, 2012 The Great Vigil of Easter is an ancient liturgy when people would gather in churches to pray, sing hymns, and hear inspiring stories from the Jewish Testament in the Bible.
