As part of our welcome to Father Richard, we would like to use flowers from parishioners’ gardens for the altar on his first Sunday. Please plan to share the beauty of your summer flowers for the services on August 1st. Please bring your freshly cut flowers in water to the Parish Hall between 11:00 AM-2:00 PM on Saturday July 31. Please call Joanne Clark to let her know that you will be bringing flowers or to make other arrangements if necessary.

Golf Tournament to Benefit Area Food Pantries

The Harris Smith Post and the Sons of the American Legion will hold the Bill (Doc) Dunn & Coleman Hagadorn Annual Golf Tournament at the Dinsmore Golf Course on Friday, August 13^th. The proceeds will benefit the food pantries in Red Hook, Rhinebeck, and Germantown including ours at Messiah. The $85 per person fee includes a continental breakfast, lunch on the turn, and a Beef BBQ at the Legion immediately following the day of golf. To register, please call Tom Mabie at 758-1330.

Angel Fund: Acolyte Robes

It’s been 15 years since we ordered acolyte albs (robes) and we are in need of a variety of sizes. We also need cinctures (rope belts) for both acolytes and lay readers. The members of our Linda A. Karr Cuddle Blanket group have been working hard all year long to create over 200 beautiful quilts to be given away to the needed children who attend Camp Ramapo. All are invited to join them at the giveaways at Ramapo. It’s an experience you won’t soon forget. This summer’s giveaways will be held at Ramapo at 6:30 pm on July 7, July 28, and August 18.

For more than 30 years, the Summer Youth Conference has provided teens in the Diocese of New York with a spiritual retreat in a summer camp setting. Activities, sports, singing, worship, play, discussion and more are all part of this exciting week. This program is for youth in 6^th grade through those entering the first year of college. Registration forms with contact information are on the bulletin board in the Parish Hall.

Please remember our food pantry during the summer. The need is especially great for “Kid-friendly” food since many children will not be able to get free or reduced price breakfast and lunch at school. Some suggestions (but not limited to) for “kid-friendly” items are:

Peanut Butter	Jelly	Macaroni & Cheese	pudding cups	jello cups	fruit cups
Canned Pastas	Tuna	Kid cereal	pancake mix	syrup	juice

The pantry can also use at this time:

Coffee

Tea

canned or instant potatoes

rice

Parmalat or powdered milk

Spaghetti sauce

Shopping reminder lists are available on the Memorial Altar and in the Parish Hall. Thank you for your generosity.

Vacation time

Someone has said, “Vacation is what you take when you can’t take what you’ve been taking any longer.”

There are good reasons to take a vacation every year: spending time with friends and loved ones, experiencing physical and mental refreshment, enjoying changes in scenery and routine, and preparing for another year of productivity.

Please enjoy your vacation! Try to be faithful to the Lord by attending church while you’re away, if you have the opportunity.

Just remember that during vacations and weekend getaways, you’re especially missed by your friends at church. The work of the church suffers because no one can fill your place of responsibility quite like you.

God’s work goes on all summer long. Your presence and gifts are needed to enable the church to be strong and vigorous throughout the entire year. When you’re away, please bring or send your offering before you go. Have a wonderful summer!

If you would like to dedicate the flowers on the Altar on a specific Sunday in memory of, in honor of, or in thanksgiving for someone or something, please contact Su in the office. The suggested donation is $30.00 which covers the cost of the flowers. Additional donations, which cover the costs of wine, communion wafers, altar linens, etc., to the Altar Guild are always welcome.

Our community Vacation Bible School will be held at the Lutheran Church from July 26-July 30 from 8:45 until 12 noon. Our Family Time Leaders will guide families: through: Celebration worship, Family time, Marketplace shops (crafts, food, and a special mission project), Visits with Joseph, Pyramid Playground games, Outreach, Storytelling, caring for animals in our Animal Courtyard and lots of celebrating. Our Egyptian chef will prepare an authentic Egyptian lunch for us to experience each day. We need a few more adult and teen volunteers to help things run smoothly. Step back in time and bring ancient Egypt to life right here in Rhinebeck! You’ll really enjoy this VBS! The Vestry and I share a common concern that there be consistent pastoral coverage for you in the period before I begin at Messiah. I met with Messiah’s Pastoral Care Team and we decided that anyone wishing a pastoral visit or more critical pastoral care during June and July should please call Stephen Fisher’s cell at 845 532 7456 or Chele Fox’s cell at 845 901 3162. Your request will be passed on to me and I will work with the Lay Chaplains to ensure a timely response.
