If you would like to make a contribution, the Bishop’s recommendations are below. You may send donations direct or place them in the collection plate and we will send them out. Special Offering envelopes are [...] Mount St. Alphonsus, located in the Hudson Valley in New York State, and one of the largest retreat centers in the world, announces its upcoming programs: Taizé Prayer: Thursday, February 4, 2010. 7:30pm. Simple chants made glorious with harmonies sung by the Mount’s choir, in candlelight only. Donations accepted. Please note that all contributions received in the office by December 31st will be included on your final 2009 giving statement. According to IRS rules, a contribution received January 1st or later, even though it is dated 2009, must be considered a contribution in the year 2010. Bring a covered dish to share, hear the State of the Church reports, vote for vestry members, and enjoy fellowship. [ February 6, 2010; 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. ] On Saturday, February 6, Christina Hirsch, Josette Lee and Pam Wright are offering an intergenerational valentine making workshop from 2–4 pm in the parish hall. We have four or five models for making one-of-a-kind valentines including a pop-up and a “flag book.” We’ll provide all materials, but bring interesting papers or “doo-dads” you’d like to [...] [ January 30, 2010; 12:30 pm to 5:00 pm. ] The Church of the Messiah is rich with opportunities for participation in a wide range of activities. As is the case in a lot of organizations, many of these activities have become dependent on the work of only a few people. This situation raises questions about the sustainability and possibilities for growth of these activities. Please take a copy so that you have it when you go shopping. Perhaps you could pick up an item or two or three. The list will be updated periodically and copies placed in this basket. The profile describes our church, who we are, where we want to be, and perhaps most importantly, what we are looking for in a new rector. It is the “want ad” that introduces our parish to “candidates.” The profile was based on your [...] There are 210 parishes in the New York Diocese and we are number 51 in income. By this measure we are a wealthy church, and yet our operating budget historically runs in the red. Kris Perry, who heads the Messiah search committee, will report on the search process. In addition, Francois Weigel will present the annual budget. There will be an election of new vestry. Bring [...] This Sunday marks the beginning of the annual observance of National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW). This flu season has presented our community with a unique challenge to fight a new type of influenza — the 2009 H1N1 influenza virus. |
