Verse of the Day

The LORD is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them. (Psalm 145:18-19, ESV)

Advent Taizé service of readings & song Dec. 13 in Marlboro

An Advent service of readings and song will be offered to the community by Episcopalians in Marlboro on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. Focusing on “The Wonder of the Advent Season,” this Taizé service will take place in semidarkness, under candlelight, and will be followed by a hors d’oeuvres and drink in the parish hall.

“We see this as a gift we have to offer to the community,” Fr. Jerry Brooks explained. “It’s an opportunity to catch your breath in a prayerful, meditative environment. And the service is nondenominational, universal in its appeal. Also, we knock ourselves out to offer our best hospitality at the reception.”

The Taizé Community in Taizé, France spawned this unique style of worship. It reflects the meditative nature of that ecumenical community of monks. The music emphasizes simple repeated phrases, usually lines from the Psalms or other scripture. The repetition is intended to aid meditation and prayer.

The church is located at the northern intersection of Route 9W and Old Post Road in the Hamlet of Marlboro. Facilities are handicap-accessible. Parking is available. For further information, contact Fr. Jerry Brooks, 845-834-3474, or the church office, 845-231-3412.
